Flybird by Krehol Games

(3.6/5) Flybird for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is a fun game in which you control "Tweety" the bird. You control Tweety by tapping on the screen of your device with one finger, which will make you bounce up. You must continue to tap, as you will fall soon after bouncing. While bouncing and falling, you must avoid enemies such as other birds and boomerangs, while collecting coins to gain power-ups like fireballs. You can unlock other birds to play as, and each has its own unique abilities. The graphics are retro-styled, and the game has chiptune music and sound effects (they sound as if they were taken directly from a game boy game, but they weren't). Flybird is an entertaining game, but it isn't the best. If it sounds like it's your cup of tea, Flybird is available on the app store for $0.99. http://itunes.apple.com/app/flybird/id448834665?mt=8

Doodle Submarine Commander by Mathias Tauber

(2.7/5) Doodle Submarine Commander for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is a very simple arcade game. The gameplay is very slow, and can get boring very fast. The music is good, but it loops over and over again. The controls are very easy to use, as the left and right virtual buttons are big and responsive. The graphics are nice, and the character animations go frame by frame, to make the game seem more "old fashioned." Overall, Doodle Submarine Commander is a better game for children than adults. If you have young children and a spare $0.99, Doodle Submarine Commander is available on the app store for you to download. http://itunes.apple.com/app/doodle-submarine-commander/id448880817?mt=8

ArkanoArena by Sketch Games

(4.2/5) ArkanoArena for iPhone and iPod Touch (3rd gen and up) is a remake of the classic game Arkanoid. You control a board that must bounce a ball to ricochet off walls and destroy blocks. The controls are simple, you just swipe to move your board. The graphics are amazing on the retina display of the iPod Touch 4G, and is great even without the retina display. The game is a great deal at $1.99. http://itunes.apple.com/app/arkanoarena-for-iphone/id452680768

Edge Extended by Mobigame

(4.7/5) Edge Extended for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is a game that is very exciting to play. The game is a revamped version of Edge, one of Mobigame's previous titles. There is a new 3D engine incorporated in the game, new enemies, and a framerate of 60 FPS. You control a cube that must get through levels without falling into the abyss. You can collect prisms along the way to get a better score at the end of each level. Overall, the game is a great successor to Edge, and is worth the $2.99. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/edge-extended/id455112100?mt=8

Pocket RPG iPhone Edition by Crescent Moon Games

(5/5) Pocket RPG iPhone Edition for the iPhone and iPod Touch is a simple and action-filled RPG. You control one of three characters, each having unique attacks, weapons, and abilities. You move around the multiple dungeons with an analog stick, and attack with a button. The game has small RPG elements like leveling up and weapons with different attributes, but doesn't have too many of these elements. The game is a great hack-and slash/RPG mix, and looks amazing with the retina display and 3D graphics. Pick up this amazing game now for $0.99 http://itunes.apple.com/app/pocket-rpg-iphone-edition/id458082079?mt=8

Terror and War by Small Gaming

(4.1/5) Terror and War for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is a very nice-looking and entertaining overhead shooter. You control a plane that must defend Earth against invading aliens. You control your plane, which auto-fires, by placing your finger on the screen. The ship will then move to where your finger has been placed. The graphics are nice, with 2D sprites and background. The game is overall a very good shmup, and worth checking out for just $0.99. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/terror-and-war/id417601972?mt=8
